At the Breakwater Inn, we understand how precious this event is for you and for this reason our experienced team of event planners will work closely with you to make sure all of your wishes are met.

Your wedding reception can be hosted in our Private Dining Tavern, which accommodates up to 36 people or we can design a romantic, seated, tented reception for up to 150 people on our riverfront lawn venue where the Kennebunk River meets the Atlantic Ocean.

Our team offers basic linens, tables, chairs, flatware, stemware and cutlery. Customized quotes are available as well. We also maintain a list of local Kennebunkport suppliers, who offer a range of products and services, which you may need such as a professional event planner, florists, limo, trolley services, musicians, tent rental, furniture rental and more.

Reservation Information

Yes, with a buyout of the restaurant, up to 60 people, private event to include the riverside lawn.

Tented events up to 150 guests – includes riverside lawn & Striper’s restaurant is closed, your required to rent all 20 guest rooms at the Inn with a 2-night minimum from May to October.

We hold events in 5-hour increments, excluding ceremony time. 

Tent is used rain or shine.


Lawn event – up to 50 guests – portion of the riverside lawn, not private, rain back up is our event space “The Tavern”, please note that the capacity is limited to 36 guests in “The Tavern.”

You can make a reservation up to 10 guests for lunch or dinner at Stripers, more than 50 guests require booking an event space: The Tavern (up to 36 guests) or The Living Room (up to 16-24 guests). You can call the sales office at 207-361-8755 to inquire about event space.

Adirondack chairs, Stripers Riverside, are reservation only for a 2-hour period. Reservations for Adirondack chairs are accepted by phone only – 207-967-3118.

Reservations for Stripers inside seating is done online with Open Table.

If it is a tented event, the ceremony & reception takes place under the tent.

If it is a lawn event up to 50 guests, The Tavern is the rain back up space. Please note that the The Tavern capacity is 36 guests.

Yes, if the date is available, you can book your rehearsal dinner and welcome gathering, or your farewell brunch. It is booked as a separate event and will require a separate contract.

A Continental breakfast is included with room rate and is served inside Stripers Restaurant from 8am to 10am.

Yes. The Cottage is customarily rented by the wedding couple and used by the bride and bridesmaids to get ready. It has a kitchen, double sink bathroom, with a large living room area and sits on the river. We also have a suite where the groom and groomsmen can get ready as well.

Yes. If your wedding is on a Saturday, Stripers is open to the public on Friday evening. We have the wedding rehearsal on a portion of the lawn. This takes place at a time designated by The Breakwater sales coordinator.

Weddings – 5 hours – not including ceremony.

Social event – 2-3 hours

All outdoor events must end by 10:00pm per local noise ordinance. Ask your Breakwater Sales Coordinator about after hours indoor gatherings available.

No, we are an historic property and grandfathered, so we do not have any ADA bathrooms or guestrooms, we do have rooms on the first floor of the Inn with a ramp into the lobby.

Once you request a contract, we put a temporary hold on the date, you have 5 days to return the contract accompanied with a deposit.

Event deposits are the equivalent of the facility fee, which is due at contract signing. Please note that all payments are non-refundable.

Yes, the couple’s pet(s) can be at the ceremony with approval from Breakwater Inn. Pets are permitted for ceremony only. Non-service animals are not allowed in any of the indoor or lodging facilities.

Yes, all our events have a food and beverage minimum, the minimum will depend on the type of event you are having.

The food selected for your event includes appetizers, multi-courses, and a beverage package. Tax, service charge and overnight guest rooms are not included in the minimum.

No – Sperry tents provides our tents to our clients.

We will supply you with our preferred vendor list, if you have your own vendors, they will need to be approved by the sales department prior to hiring and provide certificate of insurance.
